PostSubject: "Paperinik Appgrade"   Sat Oct 06, 2012 1:40 pm

I just didn't know were to put this. But I wanted to bring news from Italy, about Duck Avenger.
I don't think it's going very well here, not because of the "PK il Mito" release, but for the consequences. Disney Italia created a new magazine, which name is Paperinik Appgrade, but there will be NO series and NO PK or Diabolical Avenger, just Donald being a superhero. Every issue will contain a NEW story, 4-5 of the best stories (from everything but PK, of course) and a cult story (like those of Martina).

I quite expected that there will NOT be another serie or something about the old PK, even after "PK il Mito", but still, this a little frustrating. They're just exploiting pkers and new fans releasing Duck Avengers' stuff, and they're not even doing it that good...

The only positive thing is that Disney Italia STOPPED to "deny" PKs' stories and characters existence, putting them here and there in lots of parts of the official sites and the other magazines. Smile

Paperinik Appgrades' official site: http://www.paperinikmagazine.it/

I'll buy at least the first issue. I'm quite curious.

Lol, they did it a LOT of time ago with the restyling of "Topolino libretto" (Disney Italia most famous and long-lived magazine, for those who don't know). Everyone (at least, the forum in which I post about Disney comics) got scared about this chibi versions of the characters. XD

Also, one of the clues that indicated the imminent birth of "PK il Mito" was... a football team of chibified characters in which there were also ANGUS FANGUS and RAZZIATORE (how did you named him in english XD?) looking like THAT. GOSH. I didn't ducking know if I was scared or moved.

I've reacted to those chibi figures too when I saw them. Thought it was fan art at first. Well, I guess Disney never really learns... Sad since PKNA was Disney Italia proving these characters really do work for both kids and older audiences as well and paving the way for lots of new thinking. I mean, no PKNA would mean no DoubleDuck and lots of other really awesome looking stories I've glanced over in Topolino libretto (such things as Darkenblot and Bram Topker looks friggin' awesome!)

I guess it's a fine balance act between trying to over-cater to the kids and actually be, y'know, innovative. Two things that really don't mesh that well, but I guess is needed. Probably also to please Disney USA.

But yeah, this seems to be yet another way of just churning out a random story each month and milking the cash cow that is the older stories. Just the name Appgrade is a big honkin' way of Disney trying to be cool and hip. Then again, better than nothing and I might be overly cynical.

Yes, yes, I hope it ISN'T like that but you know, my hopes doesn't really work in recent times.
I want to believe that maybe in a very distant future they'll make something as good as PK was, with Paperinik but even in general with every character ans story. Not that the actual stories are bad, not at all (some of them are really good), but... :C

It's strange, but I don't feel this much surprised.

In fact (with the possible exception of Pastrovicchio), Sciarrone was the one artist to insert whatever could be considered as 'eroticism' in a Disney Comic Book. One of the reasons why PKNA was an outstanding product was the human-like appearance of certain characters (like Xadhoom and the Xerbians, without both the 'dog nose' and the omnipresent white/yellow gloves, not ot mention Lyla and later Korinna), and I wouldn't expect nothing less by him, given the extremely pleasant frame of his characters... go take a look at PK2 #11 and see for yourself.

I feel this strange mix of weird, squick and nostalgia...

And this also remembers me that there's that essay on eroticism in PK that's on the shelf, covered with dust.... oh, well, maybe one day...

[cut due to noob-ness (contact the administrator for further information)]

Lol

Ahahah, you are right!

In fact, that scene will be a pivotal one in the essay - I finally decided to write it, by the way - as will be Lyla. Of the three main female characters that display eroticism in a way or another in PKNA, Xadhoom, Mary Ann Flagstarr and Lyla, she is obviously the most frequent...

So, all hail Barbucci!

Good to see where our standards are at.

And I believe this discussion's gotten off-topic.
