Wow, ok. So, that was..... interesting. I agree with Anko, it definitely felt like a strong mixture of classic, with a touch of modern, maybe? Or maybe it's just the tech the characters are using, lol. Maybe it was just the sharp, vivid designs, there's really a new level of detail to these PKNE Stories, it's amazing. It's nice to have Monteduro's more vivid colours back from M&P as well, Banks of Time's colouring always came off as a bit flat.
Granted it's a "Setup Chapter" through-&-through, but at the same time - I'm not sure how to put it exactly. It "screams" its importance out to us right from the start, in a way Banks of Time didn't? Like, Banks of Time was designed specifically to bring Lyla back into continuity/introduce her to the new readership, while also re-establishing the Raider as a villain & the "Time Travel Element," whereas Black Ray seems to be more about being a "continuation" of Might & Power, so to speak?
Again, it's rather early, but the way Arbitani is one again referencing the past in this story (I seriously thought that Issue of PKNA was doomed to be a One-Shot), he might possibly be pulling another fan-favourite out of the bag. Our "Marked Friend" seems to be an interesting addition as well, it's nice to see (another?) one of "Them" being fleshed out a bit (for once?). I really can't remember if we've gone too deep with one of them before, excepting perhaps the Reboot's Eracolator story? Hopefully it continues & he's not just a setup character.
Also, is it just me or does it seem like they're playing a bit "fast & loose" with Continuity, even more-so than before? Like, if he could do that thing with the Suit from before, then doesn't that cause a big dilemma with the later parts of Banks of Time? (Hey, I did put a Spoiler tag!) - On the subject of which, it's interesting to see the "Almighty Omega" admit that even he himself isn't aware of all of Everett's secrets.
Regardless of that, it's nice to see Arbitani focusing a bit on the World itself, & the people living in it (Duckburg specifically, especially), & how the major events of M&P have affected them. Can't wait to read the rest of this, as always ^^
There was an extensive Interview afterwards with Arbitani & Pastrovicchio right after the Chapter itself (sorry guys, I don't have a Scanner); They discuss the Black Ray Saga a lot, with a lot of potential spoilers, so if you don't want to have anything teased/foreshadowed, you'll want to leave. Unless otherwise noted by a "T/N" (Translator's Note) everything is a rough paraphrased translation of the Interview. The highlights; - Arbitani (Story): - Black Ray will be a surprising story with a lot of changes that will heavily influence upon the future of the PK Universe. "Nothing will ever be as it was." - Is this is going to be a "Zero Year" type event, if this is a "New Beginning"? This is an [all-new] Duckburg, indeed (T/N: so-to-speak), but the Duckburgians (T/N: did I just make that up?) have been through all sorts of things before, they're a tough lot, & life goes on. - The Might & Power Epilogues aren't going to be particularly fleshed out in Black Ray, but Everett Ducklair will have an important role to play in this story, in some way. - There is no "Time Jump" this time. This story takes place right after The Banks of Time Incident (not that this means PK will remain in Duckburg...).
Pastrovicchio (Art): - T/N: Tech Talk about how he/they (if I understood correctly) re-sized Panels in order to fit them onto Topolino-sized pages, while also "upgrading" his collaboration with Monteduro, thus successfully obtaining even better colouring this time around. - "Important revelations" will contribute to the ever-growing [core?] "cast." - Loves to draw "muscular" types, tries to throw one in as often as possible. Fortunately, in this Saga they are "common & powerful." Superpowered Evronians? Who knows! - Arbitani & Pastrovichhio find themselves in perfect synch with each other now. Furthermore, they share an innate passion for Superheroes which fuels their burning creative spirit in creating (T/N: bit of a vague guess here, but it should be in the right vein) complex stories & intricate plots. - (T/N: Arbitani drops an interesting tidbit in response to another question;) "I don't have the [superior mental acuity] of Uno (T/N: One), though I do feel quite close to his duplicate, the blue-skinned bobbing head that lives in the Omega Chamber. I'm [cordial/hearty] like him." - Pastrovicchio notes "I believe the formula of "I'm the muscle, he's the brains" fits us quite well. Could this be the formation of a new Dynamic Duo?!"
P.S. Thanks for the new Pikappa Translations, as well as the Black Ray Prequel, & (in advance) the upcoming Chapter 1 Translation, Banks!
P.P.S. Does anyone else have an innate desire for the entire European Continent to get off its ass already & digitalize their bloody Comics? FFS (Yes, I do mean beyond insufferably annoying iPhone/iPad Apps).
The Video that Banks links on his Blog (thanks! I almost missed it); (CLICK HERE to watch)
The Black Ray: - Gives some information about the Black Ray villain; Not a generic nobody. He was created specifically for this Saga, & Arbitani has given him a very [deep/detailed] personality. Pastrovicchio's especially fond of him, it seems. As it turns out, Everett's Gargoyles were well-merited, since he seems to have a fountain/source of some kind (or he just has, Darkseid-style) for "Infinite Power," making him, probably (as they put it, they do admit they don't want to exaggerate), the most dangerous villain PK's ever faced.
The Future: This part is a bit confusing, because there's two ways one could take this (I'm missing a specific important word (coupled with a REALLY bad camera cut), which would clarify things significantly, unfortunately): - After the 4 Black Ray Issues, there will be more PK Surprises. 1st - a 20th Anniversary Story, due Spring 2016 (wow shit, it's already been that long? Damn). 2nd - At least two future stories confirmed, which will focus on "re-introducing" Characters from the old Series, whereas another two are already <something> (can't make out the word, sorry, it's at the 2:18 mark if anyone else can. He MIGHT be saying the other two are already out, thus referring to M&P & BoT, or he might be saying something else, I really don't know, so yeah, grain of salt & all). - Regardless, there's visibly still a lot of story left to tell (Pastrovicchio's own words). - "It" (I'm assuming they mean PKNE, & not Black Ray specifically), is a story articulated in various [chapters/episodes] which will lead up to a "Season Finale" so to speak, for those who watch TV Shows (Arbitani's words). There is plenty of material & stories [left] to tell.
The Past: - The remaining video is them describing their experience coming onto/working on the PK Project back in the '90s when doing something like this was extremely ground-breaking (at least in Italy), & how ever since PK's return in 2014 he's been working exclusively with Pastrovicchio (unlike before), but this partnership has resulted in a very fruitful exchange of ideas & suggestions, resulting in both M&P & Black Ray being both as much Pastrovicchio's creation (story-wise) as they are Arbitani's, so he's very proud the stories carry both of their names.
P.S. Damn you Banker.
P.P.S. (anyone else getting tired of these?) The Black Ray Trailer, "properly" uploaded, courtesy of Monteduro himself, as it were; (SPOILERS WARNING)
(Does Italy care for neither properly Digitalized Comics OR HD Videos, suddenly? )

Just a note for those unfamiliar with the Italian Duckburg... the Mayor is a pig politician. He's usually only interested in the next election and how to boost his popularity(to win the next election). He care enough about the city to risk losing popularity if really needed... but he's more likely to act in order to stop his wife's complaining
Also, Scrooge and Rockerduck getting in fistfights over... pretty much anything, really, is an exceedingly common sight.

In the Fog Mayor:
It could be they decided since it's in the "Topolino Universe" these days, they might as well go with the "Topolino Mayor" of Duckburg, instead of their "Alternate Universe" Mayor. So yeah, officially "he lost an election" a while back. If not more than one.
Speaking of, I wonder. They obviously didn't get Everett Ducklair's permission to rebuild the Tower on his property, so what? They just hoping he'll show up one day & not sue them for it? Eminent Domain seizure? He did after all re-purchase the Tower from Scrooge with PK2's Premiere, didn't he?

And in the Italian Disney universe, the Federal government appears to be a nonentity
This is hardly anything unique for Italian Disney comics, if I had a dime for every time Duckburg sent it's own football team or similar to the World Cup or to the Olympics, I'd have... at least a few dimes right now. At least Italian Disney comics specifically take place in the US with the characters speaking English and all, whereas Scandinavian (at least Swedish) ones tend to be a bit more fuzzy about it, sometimes somewhat implying them rather taking place in the country where the comic is published.
Anyways, on to the new story...
I really feel this one started out really strong. After the more confusing and less than stellar Banks of Time (not that that one necessarily was bad, it was just that it didn't really match up anywhere near to Might and Power), this was really a return to form. Sure, we're still in the dark about lots of what's going on, but it's something that's actually really intriguing. All in all, I think we really can have something special here.
Also, I really stuck on the following words (speculation about the future ahead, so if you want to be in the dark about potential future stuff with interesting consequences, don't read the spoiler):
"Sooner or later they'll be ready for the truth and you won't have to hide it any longer!"
With the evronians now being known to the public and other "big" stuff happening (such as the destruction of Ducklair Tower), I'm inclined to believe they would actually take things in this direction. Which would be interesting to say the least.
And as usual, awesome work on the translation the two of you!

I kind of forgot I could make comments in this forum about the new story... I have nothing interesting to say, though, except that... it looks... surprisingly good, for now??
I have... the amazing impression it could be better than Potere e Potenza, which is saying a lot. Plus, more Everett Ducklair secrets! I'm always a sucker for them!
(Also, there was an Angus' pic that I really want as an avatar somewhere, lol...)
I'm always a sucker for Everett Ducklair in general -- the whole Ducklair family, truthfully.
I'm kinda hoping we will see One and Everett this episode, maybe One at least, but I feel like it won't be until next episode -- presumably the last -- that will for sure be their part in the whole fiasco.
But from how the team talks about it, it seems we will get more stories, hopefully.

Wow! I never stop loving how much Artibani cameo's all this PKNA stuff.
This is interesting though:
The way they're using the setting established by "In the Fog", you can tell that they weren't planning for the Ducklair Tower's Omega Protocol, Android Gargoyles & Corona plotlines (needless to say), but they're tying it all together quite nicely. Aside from the whole bit wherein he created this Alternate Dimension, which sorta-kinda fucks with the "In the Fog" Flashbacks, at least until we assume that much like the briefly-mentioned Corona Files, Everett probably smudged a few details in order to cover up the real truth of the situation.
However, if I understood correctly, did Omega-Sergio just say Corona had a Monarch, who's a guy, who's..... a crazy God-Level Psychopath who somehow got locked up in an Alternate Dimension Mini-Universe created by another God-Level crazy which we know as Everett Ducklair?
Plus, to top it all off, this same Universe is the one wherein he planned to store the Ducklair Tower, with all its associated DOOMSDAY WEAPONS, in case the Omega Protocol was ever engaged (albeit, under an "impenetrable" Force Field Barrier, but well within range of the afore-mentioned God-level Psychopath who wants nothing more than to break out of his Totally-Not-Marvel-Civil-War-Project-42 Prison?
I wonder if he now thinks the whole thing may have been another one of his insanely bad ideas, in retrospect, considering how the Tower's ended up without its [landing platform/anchoring pylons] (all thanks to the afore-mentioned Psycho I might add).
Though I do hope we get more background information on him, I'm curious, did he & his er, Horde (Artibani plays WoW, or just a coincidence? lol) get deposed from Corona some time ago, only to escape before/after Everett leaves for Earth, & end up transported there by/following him for safekeeping/a new World to conquer? Hm.
P.S. I just realized how much sense the Black Ray Prequel Issue makes once it's compared to (CLICK) from the pages of Banks of Time. Damn, these guys are good.
Off-Topic: Piggybacking on the conversation from a few months ago about the US printing a translation of the Duck Avenger's 1960's First Appearance/Origins story; The Double-Issue story in question, along with some other Silver Age Duck Avenger Classics, are being collected for the first time ever (in English) into a TPB due this December!

Oooh my god. Ok, one of the things that made me fall in love with PK in the first place is: sci-fi explanations... I swear I was drooling in the second part. Everything is so heavily badass, I can't even deal. Artibani's writing is amazing as usual (maybe the jokes weren't top ones, but still nice), and Pastrovicchio's art is unbearably good. I HATE having to wait another wednesday, gosh.

I agree with Banker, how in the hell did Everett find time to do conquer a dimension? Dude's running an economic empire, inventing crazy stuff, doing his dull Earthling taxes, and still has time to freaking make a stable gateway to an universe and make it his own personal locker of sorts?
